Conspiracy?

Is there a conspiracy afoot? We hear that Busts of the Old Tzar (aka Doug Hudson) have already been sculpted and are on public display (see above). Has there been some collusion between the new and the old soviet? The photograph below would suggest there has and may even be an attempted coup on the cards. Indeed, we are informed that Hudson hasn't been seen on these shores for over a week.

John Bradford Memorial Match

FOLLOWING the shock appointment of a new Soviet at the tour dinner it appears the Nomads have come to the attention of Parliament. Could the visitor to our site (see above) be non another than the PM himself? Is Tony going to take a page out of Dougie's book and appoint young Leo to the cabinet we wonder? Or could it be Mr Prescott now nomadic himself since he's given up his grace-and-favour home at Dorneywood in Buckinghamshire looking for in a game in the Bradford Memorial Game? Only time will tell.

Nomadic Profile: Iain Gilhespy

BACKWORTH Boy turned Crafty Cockney, Gilly is reknowned amongst fellow Nomads for his excessive fastidiousness. Reputedly a stunt double for Colin Farrell, he swapped the backwaters of North Tyneside for the bright lights of the big city and is now appearing complete with wheelchair for Battersea Ironsides 2nd team.

Gilhespy is a veteran of ten Nomads tours and is still carrying the ball faster than he delivers it, so much so that many Nomads believe he actually passes it in his follow through. Indeed he undoubtedly produced one of the most memorable Nomadic performances of all time when bowling to a United Arab Emirates international at Hornsea in 2000 where legend has it there are still damaged tiles on the pavilion roof. Although Dizzy is known in Nomadic circles as a 'bowler', he claims that due to recent injury worries he is now playing for the Ironsides as a specialist batsman however his statistics suggest otherwise.

His business card claims he is a Sales Executive for OK magazine when in fact he sells space in the personal columns of some of the less reputable tabloids. Often, I am told, offering good discounts to fellow Nomads.

ASSEMBLED Nomads looked on in disbelief when at the end of the tour dinner Douglas Hudson announced that he was to appoint a new soviet.

Hudson explained that Alan Meldrum and Peter Crane had tended resignations whilst Clive Page (aka the Fraudster) was now in disgrace.

"I’m not getting any younger”

Not that any of us present had noticed.

"the time has come to appoint a new soviet” he continued.

Then as a deathly hush shrouded the room at the Tsar Nicholas Hotel in Scarborough, with a few carefully chosen words Hudson appointed Chris Nicholls (Smoggy) and Alan Docherty (The Doc). The murmuring which began with Docherty’s election became shrieks of nepotism as Hudson minor became the third new appointee. Indeed those Nomads present were left wondering whether another attempted coup might be in the offing, although with Docherty now part of the establishment this would appear unlikely.

MOST of the us Nomadic tourists were totally non plussed at the Doc's constant reference to Bouillabaisse this week so for the benefit of those who didn't know I've done five minutes researching followed by some cutting and pasting.

Bouillabaisse is a traditional Provençal fish stew originating from the port city of Marseille. Its name comes from the two French words bouillir (to boil), and abaisser (to reduce).
Bouillabaisse is usually a simple fish stock containing different kinds of cooked fish and possibly shellfish. This is complemented with a variety of herbs and spices such as garlic, chillies, bay leaves, fennel and saffron. Classically, fish is salted cod (from which one must remove the salt
before preparing the dish), but other kinds of fish may be used. Vegetables such as leeks, onions, tomatoes and celery are boiled together to produce a rich flavour. The exact proportions vary by cook and region.
The stew and the fish are usually served in separate bowls, with the stew poured over slices of French bread seasoned with a spicy type of aioli (garlic mayonnaise) called rouille. Bouillabaisse is often only served when there are large groups of people, as it is time-consuming to prepare and some of its ingredients may be expensive; it is also generally available from restaurants along the coasts of Provence.
Origins for the simple fare date back to the time of the Ancient Greeks, when they founded the Provençal town Marseille in 600 BC. Then, the population ate a simple fish stew known in Greek as 'kakavia.' Bouillabaisse also has an apocryphal mythological origin: it is the soup that Venus fed to Vulcan, to lull him to sleep, so that she could cavort with the god Mars.

The Tour 2006

AFTER a crushing defeat at Hornsea, skipper Philip Hudson brought the Nomads back to winning ways with a victory over Bridlington Under 15s. From Brid to Scarborough where an augmented squad was once again thwarted by Colin Adamson's rain dancing and for the fourth year in succession the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
